I don’t know your story and you don’t know mine, but chances are that if you’re reading this, you’ve had some pretty bad things happen in the past. It might be a broken marriage; it might be bankruptcy. You may have been abused, physically or emotionally; you may have been told you’re good for nothing and you won’t amount to anything.
The list of past hurts and challenges goes on… suffice to say that most of us have things in our past that can very easily leave us feeling like victims.
The problem with being the victim is that you’ll never get to where you could because you’re always able to blame someone or something. While past hurts really do in fact hurt, every one of us has the choice as to whether we can bury it and move on, or whether we will wallow in self pity.
The victim can use the past as an excuse as to why they don’t step into their future. This article is not meant to be one of not caring about the terrible things that might have been done to you, said to you, said about you… or any other pain or hurt that might hold you back, but the truth is that the past is the past, and you need to move past it if you’re to have a bold future.
There is no time for excuses because life is so short. Just this morning I noticed in my diary that next week is heading into late January. You can already feel it is going to be another very quick year.
So my advice is to deal with your past. See someone for help if you need to, but then leave the past in the past and look forward into a brand new decade of opportunity. The windscreen in your car is bigger than the rear view mirror as we are meant to look forward when we drive, and life is no different.
We all have hurts and disappointments; only you can decide if you can put it behind you to step into whatever it is God has call you into.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
John 8:36
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
