The workplace is changing so rapidly that it’s difficult to keep up with it. Fewer jobs. Jobs going offshore. Artificial Intelligence (AI) taking over and so much more.
But there is a plus to this changing landscape and that is the number of women choosing to start businesses from their homes. Suddenly the work life balance is manageable.
Female entrepreneurs don’t get enough press. But be sure, there are plenty of them and they began their business from their kitchen table while looking after their children, cooking, washing, cleaning.
These women knew they had to start somewhere. They may have thought about a business for many years and now they have a chance, in between bottle feeds, to put a strategy around their dream.
It may well not happen overnight. But success in business grows from just one, tiny seed.

Answer those questions and your journey has begun.
Whether your dream is to sell vintage clothing or run a consultancy to coach and mentor women – it all begins with an attitude of…… I can do all things…..
In my experience most women I know are already doing something that is marketable. They are volunteering in an area that they are passionate about; they are coaching and advising as a friend to a friend; they are opening their home to visitors; decorating their homes; advising friends on interior design; taking photos of the kids; making your daughters hair scrunchies! You get what I’m saying.
Look at what you are naturally doing as part of your day to day. There you will find a clue to a business opportunity.
Another thought is to go back over old journals and remind yourself of what you once wished for before life and busyness took over. There you will find clues into your passions.
I’ve had the privilege of seeing young moms in my world build successful businesses in their stay at home mum season. They aren’t all natural entrepreneurs, but what they have in spades is a passion for building something.
Here are a few easy keys to get started:
- Look at your life and select one of the things you’re good at (I say one because when you look closely there will be many)
- Research research, research. This is how you get ideas.
- via Instagram or YouTube
- Advertise in your local paper
- Have a coffee and cake event at home to promote your new business.
If I’ve made it sound easy, it’s not, but it is a start. That first step may result in a ‘trip’ but get up and keep going. If you are truly serious about running your own business there will be failures and that’s OK it’s where the real training is done.
